HOW IT HAPPENED
  • St. Andrews jumped out front with the first goal of the game on the team's second shot attempt. Cy Horner got Methodist on the board next to tie the game 1-1. After the Knights responded with a goal on their next shot, the Monarchs wasted no time, winning the faceoff as Patrick Rowell picked up the ground ball and Horner fed a pass to Mitchell McClendon for the score less than a minute later.
  • The Knights were first to find the back of the net in the second quarter, scoring just 15 seconds into the period and again with 11:34 remaining. The Monarchs rattled off two quick scores to even things up – first with a goal by Horner that Nate Morgan assisted on, then a score by Jesse Leyble following a faceoff won by Tyler Bennett. Methodist's momentum continued to build as Horner and Leyble each recorded another goal apiece to give the Monarchs a 6-4 advantage that the team held onto all the way to halftime.
  • Methodist struck early in the third quarter as Horner assisted RJ Breeden for a score. The next shot on goal was a score for St. Andrews, but the Monarchs re-cushioned their lead with a Hunter Vaughan goal that made the difference 8-5.
  • Goalkeeper Gabe Russell recorded two saves to hold the Knights at bay early in the fourth quarter. Just inside 9:00 remaining, Mark Chatt intercepted a pass and took advantage of St. Andrews' out-of-position goalkeeper for another Methodist score. Vaughan recorded the next two goals as the Monarchs increased the gap between themselves and the Knights, now up 11-5. Horner tacked on one more for Methodist in between two final St. Andrews scores.
