Monarchs Fall to Blazers in Neutral Site Game

Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.  The Methodist men's lacrosse team was unable to contain the Blazers of Hood College on Sunday afternoon, dropping the neutral site contest 14-4. The Monarchs scored the game's first two goals before falling too far behind to catch up.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monarchs netted the first goal of the match, a strike by Hunter Vaughan (that was assisted on by Mark Chatt) just over five minutes after the opening faceoff. A little more than two minutes later, RJ Breeden delivered a goal that gave Methodist a 2-0 lead. The Blazers responded with one score before the end of the quarter.
  • It was all Hood in the second period as the Blazers scored seven goals to the Monarchs' zero. Aden Sievert scored three goals for Hood while assisting on another as he contributed to the Blazers' 8-2 halftime advantage.
  • Methodist recorded the first goal of the second half, a score by Jordan Frenzen, following two shot attempts by Hood (one of which was saved by Methodist goalkeeper Gabe Russell) on the other end. The Blazers took control again though, finding the net four times to finish the third quarter with a 12-3 lead.
  • The Blazers tacked on two more goals in the fourth before Cole Mayer scored with 49 seconds remaining to decrease the final deficit to 10 goals.  
FAST FACTS
  • Hood took almost double the shot attempts of Methodist, out-shooting the Monarchs 40-21. In their dominant second quarter, the Blazers out-shot the Monarchs 16-1.
  • Methodist goalkeeper Gabe Russell recorded 13 saves, a season-high through three games played.
  • The Blazers capitalized on their extra-man opportunities, scoring twice on two man-up chances.

The Monarchs return home to host Guilford College for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Monarch Stadium.
