Records: Methodist 1-3, Guilford 2-1

Location: Monarch Stadium; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Methodist scored the first goal of the game – a strike from Nate Moore less than 30 seconds into the match. From there, Guilford quickly took control, scoring five times over the team's next six shots on goal. Tyler Bennett connected with Hunter Vaughan for a score to close the first quarter with a 5-2 deficit.

  • The Monarchs held the Quakers to four shots on goal in the second quarter, with goalkeeper Gabe Russell allowing just one Guilford goal while recording three saves. However, Methodist was unable to score a goal of its own in the period, and Guilford took a 6-2 advantage into halftime.

  • Russell saved five consecutive shots on goal to start the third quarter before Jesse Leyble found the back of the net for the Monarchs after receiving a pass from Cole Mayer. Two minutes later, The Quakers responded with a goal to get back to a four-goal lead, but they quickly conceded another to the Monarchs who had a man-up, as RJ Breeden netted a shot that he was assisted on by Cy Horner to pull Methodist back to within three.

  • The Monarchs couldn't contain the Quakers as Guilford piled on two more goals to round out the third period before Hunter Vaughan scored for the Monarchs with two seconds left in the quarter despite being a man down. Trailing by five, the Monarchs allowed two more goals in the fourth and scored just one more of their own, as Breeden recorded the final score for Methodist, assisted by Horner.
