DANVILLE, Va. The Methodist men's lacrosse team earned a runaway victory over Averett University on Saturday. The Monarchs piled on 12 goals while holding the Cougars to just three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Averett was first to find the back of the net, taking a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the match. It would be the only lead the Cougars would hold, as the Monarchs rattled off the next nine goals.

After taking a 3-1 lead at the 6:31 mark in the first quarter, Tyler Bennett won the ensuing faceoff and got the ball to Hunter Vaughan for a super quick score with 6:19 on the clock. The Monarchs rounded out the first quarter with two more goals for a 6-1 advantage.

Scores in the second quarter from Vaughan, Ryan Kavounis and Cy Horner extended Methodist's unanswered scoring streak to nine goals. After three second-quarter saves by Gabe Russell, the Cougars scored their second goal of the game for the last score of the half.

RJ Breeden and Mitchell McClendon produced to more scores for Methodist in the third quarter, followed by another goal by McClendon in the fourth to give the Monarchs a ten-goal lead. Averett scored its first and only goal of the half with 4:40 remaining in the match.
