FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The Methodist men's lacrosse team started USA South Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, as the team hosted William Peace University. A close contest at first turned into a 15-6 victory for the Monarchs over the Pacers in Monarch Stadium.
Late in the second quarter,
Hunter Vaughan would record his 100th goal of his collegiate career. The senior from Apex, North Carolina, became just the third Methodist player to register 100+ goals in a Monarch uniform.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vaughan got the scoring going for Methodist with his goal, off a feed from Cy Horner, then 15 seconds later Jesse Leyble made it 2-0 for the Monarchs. William peace tallied the next two goals to knot it up, 2-2, thanks to Gregory Liebman and Riely Murray. Another score by Leyble gave Methodist a 3-2 lead by the end of the first quarter.
- The Monarchs took advantage of an extra-man opportunity following a Pacer penalty that carried over from the first as Vaughan found the back of cage once more. William Peace made it a one-goal game again after Murray found Brewer Warlick for the goal.
- Three straight goals -- from RJ Breeden, Horner, and Ryan Kavounis -- put Methodist up 7-3. Following a Pacers score by Devin Noonan, Vaughan recorded back-to-back goals just before halftime to have the scoreboard read 9-4.
- Warlick had the first goal in the third period for William Peace before the Monarchs tallied the next four scores, 13-5. The fourth frame saw Methodist outscore the Pacers 2-1 in the final 15 minutes of play.
FAST FACTS
- William Peace would out shoot the Monarchs (39 to 35), but Methodist held the edge in shots on goal with 21 compared to the Pacers 18.
- The Monarchs took command of the faceoff circle as they won 15 of the 23 total faceoffs. Tyler Bennett claimed 14 of those victories.
- With the win, Methodist now has a five-game winning streak against William Peace.
