GREENSBORO, N.C. Ranked, No. 17, Methodist University baseball team went up the road to Guilford College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon. The Monarchs struck early out of the gate but the Quakers bunkered down and came up with a 16-6 win at McBane Field.
JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Guilford def. Methodist, 16-6
Records: Methodist 13-2, Guilford 9-6-1
Location: McBane Field; Greensboro, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist had runners on second & third by the time Hunter Hollman came to the plate, four batter in the lineup, in the first inning. Hollman would ground out but not before he drove in the first run of the game. The next batter, Charles Jordan, then brought in the other runner with his RBI single.
- Heading into the bottom of the first, Guilford was already down 2-0 but that advantage would be short lived. The first three Quaker batters all got a hit and soon the ballgame was tied 2-2. Another Guilford hit, thanks to an RBI hit by Allden Horne, made it 3-2.
- The Quakers tallied another run, 4-2, in the second off a wild pitch by the Monarchs. This lead lasted one inning before Methodist knotted it up 4-4 with RBI singles from Jordan and Caleb Rogers.
- Between the fourth and seventh innings, Guilford broke the tie and registered 11 unanswered runs to take a commanding 15-4 lead.
- The eighth and ninth innings saw Jackson Kuhn and Jordan record an RBI each to drive in the final two Monarch runs. Colin Smith of the Quakers added the last run for his team with a solo homer.
