JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Greensboro def. Methodist, 12-3
Records: Methodist 16-5 (3-2 USA South), Greensboro 10-10 (4-1)
Location: Armstrong-Shelley Field; Fayetteville, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Greensboro was hot from the get-go, taxing Andrew Baur with five runs on five hits. The Monarchs were only able to record one out before Kyle Molivas entered the game, forcing one batter to ground out and striking out the next.
- While Molivas held the Pride scoreless over the next three innings, Methodist produced a little offense of its own. In the bottom of the third, Stancil Bowles placed himself at second with a leadoff double before his teammates brought him around for a score. In the fourth, Gavin Wheeler reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on a Hunter Hollman walk, advanced to third thanks to a single by Caleb Greene, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Caleb Rogers.
- The Pride scored two runs off Molivas in the fifth inning, prompting another change on the mound for the Monarchs. Tanner Freeland was next to pitch, cleanly finishing off the fifth before allowing one unearned run in the sixth. The seventh inning got no better for Methodist, as Greensboro recorded back-to-back homeruns – a three-run bomb and a solo shot – to increase its lead to ten runs.
- Jackson Deal scored from third on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to reduce Methodist's deficit to nine runs, but the Monarchs were unable to close the gap anymore.
MORE STATS
