CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. The Methodist men's golf team had a solid first day at the Camp Lejeune Collegiate on Friday, posting the top first-round team score. The Monarchs combined for a three-under par 285, edging out Christopher Newport by one stroke.

DAY 1 NOTES
- In second place, Jonny Lewis recorded a three-under 69 in the opening round. He scored two birdies on the front nine and a third on hole 14. After bogeying the 17th, he birdied the last hole.
- One shot behind Lewis, Aiden Spampinato posted a two-under 70. He recorded two birdies along with two bogeys but boosted his score early with an eagle on the fourth hole. He currently sits third on the leaderboard.
- In a seven-way tie for eighth, Cameron Cappuzzo scored a -1 through the first nine holes after recording two birdies and one bogey, but fell to even on the back nine following one birdie and two bogeys.
- Cooper Hrabak started hot with an eagle on the third hole. He slipped on the fourth hole with a bogey before sinking a birdie on the sixth. From there, Hrabak tallied four more bogeys to bring his day one total to a two-over par 74.
- Also with a +2 on the day, David D'Agostino birdied three of his first four holes, boosting his score to three-under par. Two double-bogeys on the back nine contributed to his slide down the leaderboard, where he currently sits tied for 23rd.
