A Perfect 11-0 to Begin the Season

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Methodist baseball team concluded their annul Armstrong Invitational on Sunday afternoon with a game against Averett University, in non-conference action. The Monarchs remain perfect, 11-0, following a 10-4 win over the Cougars on Armstrong-Shelley Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Monarchs got the scoring started in the third inning, to put them up 3-0. The RBIs came off the bats of Jacob Austin, Wesley Hall, and Gavin Wheeler.
  • In the top of the fourth, a Brandt Brophy hit to the outfield brought in the runner from third to tally the first run for Averett.
  • Methodist would then put up a five-spot in the latter half of the inning to make it 8-1. The trio of Hall, Wheeler, and Hunter Hollman each drove in a run, one right after the other. Two more Monarchs came around to score on a Caleb Rogers hit back up middle.
  • The sixth saw the Cougars register three more runs to find themselves only down by four, 8-4. Nick Romano and Drew Rabon recorded back-to-back RBIs before some Methodist miscues allowed Rabon to reach all the way home.
  • Also in the sixth inning, an error on Averett scored another Monarch run followed by Rogers collecting the final RBI of the contest to have the scoreboard read 10-4.
