FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The Methodist baseball team knocked out Brevard twice on Monday, narrowly taking both games of a doubleheader. The Monarchs pieced together a 3-1 victory in the first game before pulling off a 10-9 come-from-behind win under the lights in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first game of the doubleheader was a low-scoring affair, with Brevard capturing a 1-0 lead with a score in the top of the fourth. Kyle Molivas entered in the fifth inning, striking out two in a three-batter frame.
- In the sixth inning, Methodist compiled three hits that led to two runs, giving the Monarchs the lead. They added one more run to the total in the eighth inning, making the score 3-1, which would stand for the remainder of the contest.
- Game two was much higher scoring, as the Tornados started off hot with a four-run first. The Monarchs answered with one run in the bottom of the inning, as Rob Wilkerson crossed home on a wild pitch. Methodist conceded two more runs in the top of the second before Tanner Freeland relieved Austin Skipper of his pitching duties and recorded three-straight outs.
- Methodist clawed back with three runs in the bottom of the second. Justin Blunt (single) and Jacob Austin (triple) were each responsible for batting in one run. In the sixth, the Monarchs scored another run on a Caleb Rogers sacrifice bunt, making it a 6-5 ballgame.
- The Tornados were in store for a bunt clinic in the bottom of the eighth. Caleb Greene reached on a leadoff bunt, followed by Charles Jordan, who beautifully laid one to the first base side. After Greene stole third, it was Rogers' turn to square around. He put another ball to the first base side that was fielded by the first baseman, and no one covered first, allowing Rogers to reach while Jordan advanced to second and Greene scored.
- Jordan stole third, then the defensive miscues continued as the Brevard pitcher balked, sending Jordan home and moving Rogers to second. Blunt walked, then Jackson Deal recorded the fourth bunt single of the inning to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by Austin scored one, then Wesley Hall launched a triple to right center, batting in two for a 10-6 lead.
- Brevard didn't go down without a fight, rallying for three runs on two hits and one Methodist error in the top of the ninth, but falling short of a comeback.
