Both the Monarchs and Cameron Cappuzzo Take First Place at Shoals Intercollegiate

Men's Golf team with the first place trophy at Shoals Intercollegiate; Cameron Cappuzzo also took home first place

FLORENCE, Ala.  Methodist University men's golf, ranked No. 3 in the nation, played the final round of the Shoals Intercollegiate on Tuesday. It was a tight race for first place, as the Monarchs were tied with No. 1 Emory University heading into the last day.
 
At conclusion of the round, both Methodist and the Eagles finished with a five-under par 283 which gave each team a grand total of two-under 862 for the event. The team victory came down to a fifth man, non-scoring member of the team score, playoff. The Monarchs held the edge with Aiden Spampinato scoring a two-over par 74 over Emory's seven-over par 79.

DAY 2 NOTES
  • This is Methodist second victory of the 2022-23 season.
  • After being in a battle for most of the day, Cameron Cappuzzo (72-67-68) eventually pulled away and kept his name atop of the player leaderboard with a grand total of nine-under par 207. On his last go around the course, he made four birdies and 14 pars to score a four-under par 68.
  • Cooper Hrabak (74-73-70) moved up five spots and came in seventh place with a total of one-over par 217. He was one-under par (two birdies & a bogey) heading into the turn and then wrapped up his third round with three more birdies and two bogeys for a two-under par 70.
  • Coming in 11th place, David D'Agostino (74-72-74) ended the tournament with a four-over par 220 after posting a two-over par 74 in the last round. A birdie and a bogey had him at even-par on the front half before a birdie, a bogey, and a double bogey put him at two-over par on the back half.
  • Jonny Lewis (76-74-71) was able to jump up six places and finish in a tie for 19th. He shot a one-under par 71 following four birdies, three bogeys, a double bogey and an eagle. His total for the event was a five-over par 221.
  • Spampinato (73-77-74) ended up coming in a tie for 24th place with an eight-over par 224. Two bogeys and two birdies through the first nine had him at even-par start the round. He would do the same thing on the back nine but also added a double bogey.
  • Will Campbell (74-80-75), playing as an individual, finished in a tie for 41st place with a 13-over par 229. His third trip saw him make four birdies, three bogeys, and a quadruple bogey for a three-over par 75.
UP NEXT
Methodist is off until April 24-26, when the team plays defends their league crown at the USA South Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships. Just like last year, the event will be played at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
