HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jesse Leyble was first to find the back of the net, scoring off a pass from Hunter Vaughan a little less than three minutes into the match. Greensboro took the next two goals and grasped a 2-1 lead with 8:48 left in the first quarter. Thirty-one seconds later, RJ Breeden slung the ball in for a score, tying the game at 2-2. Breeden scored again with a dime from Vaughan, then Vaughan capped a three-goal run for Methodist with a feed from Cy Horner. The Pride answered with the next score, but Vaughan connected with Leyble for the final score of the period.
  • After a 5-3 first quarter in favor of Methodist, the Monarchs again outscored the Pride 5-3 in the second quarter, with goals by Mark Chatt, Horner, Vaughan and Breeden (2). With the Monarchs leading 10-6, Vaughan recorded Methodist's lone third-quarter score, extending the home team's lead to five goals. Greensboro scored the next two, inching back to within three goals entering the final period.
  • In the first 76 seconds of the fourth quarter, the Monarchs scored three times, taking a six-goal lead. Chatt scored the first of the three, just 29 seconds after the opening faceoff to start the period. Next was Horner from Ryan Kavounis, then on the ensuing faceoff, Tyler Bennett dished the ball to Vaughan who sailed it right past the Greensboro goalkeeper for a score.
  • Trailing by six, the Pride rattled off a three-goal run, making the score 14-11 with 8:00 to go. On the next faceoff, Bennett scooped up the ground ball, sprinted down the field and scored all by himself. The Monarchs shut out the visitors the rest of the way and put the icing on the cake with one last goal by Kavounis in the final minute.
