HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist's Hudson Zeisman tested the home team's keeper early, taking a shot in the sixth minute that was saved. Monarch goalie Trey Gohr made the next two saves, one past the 13-minute mark and another just past the 20th minute. At the 25-minute mark, it was Joshua Mott whose shot was saved.
- Gohr made his third save for Methodist in the 29th minute, followed by a shot by Matthew Manzano just a few minutes later that was saved on the other end of the field. With Gohr's fourth save in the 36th minute, both teams remained scoreless as halftime loomed.
- Methodist finally broke through in the 37th minute as Zeisman fed Carson Stretz a pass that he booted in for his first goal of the season. Three minutes later, the foot of Zeisman assisted on another Monarch goal – this time it was Sean Laney recording his first score of the season.
- Laney was first to find the back of the net in the second half as well, extending Methodist's lead to 3-0 with roughly 30 minutes left on the clock. The Monarchs tacked on one more for good measure in the 86th minute, lifting them to a four-goal shutout win.
NUMBERS
- The Monarch defense stifled the Owls in the second half, conceding just two shots with zero shots on goal.
- Methodist's 19 shots and 10 shots on goal are both season-high team totals, while Warren Wilson's eight shots and four shots on goal are both season lows for Methodist opponents.
