FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Looking for a bounce-back win following Wednesday night's five-set loss, the Methodist volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over visiting Greensboro College on Saturday. While handing the Pride their first loss in conference play, the Monarchs improved their own USA South record to 4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was an even start for both teams, exchanging one point at a time for the first six points. With Methodist down 5-3, Jeanana Fowler earned her first kill of the match, followed by a Jamie Holton service ace that brought the score to 5-5. Trailing again, this time 14-11, the Monarchs took the next five points: a kill by Fowler, a surprise kill by Hannah Hewett, a service ace from Julia Mundy, yet another Fowler kill, and an error by Greensboro to cap off the run. Methodist held its lead for the remainder of the first set, with Blake O'Brien enthusiastically notching back-to-back services aces as part of the final four points all won by the Monarchs.
- Methodist went down 5-2 to begin the second set before Savannah Hovander and Holton recorded a kill each as a part of a three-point Monarch swing. Having conceded a 12-10 lead to the Pride, the Monarchs produced another five-point streak, though this time a Hewett service ace was accompanied by four Greensboro errors. Fowler and Holton kept Methodist out front, as Fowler recorded a solo block and assisted with Holton on another block, and Holton also recorded two kills – the second giving the Monarchs a 21-16 advantage. Another sneaky kill by Hewett made the score 23-18, then two sloppy serves by the visitors gave Methodist the final two points it needed to win the second set.
- If you wanted to see the Monarchs go on a five-point run in this match, you had to wait for them to be trailing. Down 4-2, Methodist took the next five points, which included two kills by Holton, one by Fowler, a block by the Holton-Fowler duo, and an ace by O'Brien. When the Pride tied things up at 15-15, Fowler and Holton combined for four kills and a shared block to give the Monarchs five of the next six points. Hovander tallied a kill to give Methodist its 23rd point, but Greensboro battled back with three points to narrow the Monarch lead to just one point. A Holton kill made it match point for the Monarchs, and after one final point for the Pride, Fowler finished the job with a big block to secure the win.
