HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist got off to a rocky start in the first set as Salem jumped out to a 7-0 lead. That early surge by the Spirits allowed them to maintain a significant advantage over the Monarchs for the rest of the set.
  • Game two fared better for Methodist with Savannah Hovander registering a couple of kills to give her team its first lead of the match. Both squads went back-and-forth capturing points before a late four-point run by the Monarchs helped even the set score at one a piece.
  • Even though the third set was ultimately won by Salem, there was a point it wasn't clear who was going to take the set. The teams were matching points for majority of the first 24 total points. Methodist took its largest advantage, 15-12, after a three-point swing, two of three being kills by Jamie Holton. Later the Spirits rallied and scored seven straight points to turn the tide.
  • The Monarchs had a strong performance in the fourth set, starting with them getting out to a 10-2 advantage. Salem was able to get back to within four, 16-12, of the Monarchs lead but then Jeanana Fowler recorded two of the next three Methodist points to put them up by seven. One last four-point run by the Monarchs sealed the set for them and force a fifth game.
  • Out of all of the sets, the fifth was the most thrilling one in tonight's match. The two teams kept exchanging points with neither side having more than a two point lead. A three-point rally, the longest of the set, by Methodist put the Monarchs out in front 13-12. The teams continued to trade points before the Spirits twice registered back-to-back points to win the match.
