GREENSBORO, N.C.  For the fourth consecutive match, the Methodist women's volleyball team played a road contest on Saturday, traveling to Greensboro College for another USA South clash. The Monarchs claimed two of the first three sets but were unable to clinch a match win, falling to the Pride in five sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Greensboro dominated the first set, taking a 10–4 lead that quickly ballooned into a 25–11 set victory. Jeanana Fowler was the only Monarch clicking in the first period, as the senior produced four kills.
  • The switch flipped on for Methodist in the second set, and the match suddenly became competitive. Neither team drew ahead by more than three points as they battled to a 19–19 gridlock. Greensboro took four of the next five points to pull in front, 23–20, but a kill by Carlyn Tanis sparked a five–point run that gave the Monarchs the set win.
  • Savannah Hovander logged three kills as Methodist captured a 6–2 lead to start the third set. The Monarchs maintained the lead for the remainder of the set and continued to work through the middle with Fowler and Hovander when they could. At set point, it was Jamie Holton who delivered a service ace to give Methodist its 25th point.
  • Down 9–8 in the fourth set, the Monarchs rallied to take seven of the next eight points, as Holton (3), Hovander (2) and Tanis (1) all recorded kills. Briefly possessing a five–point advantage, Methodist slowly lost ground to Greensboro, and the teams became tied 21–21. The Pride were successful in winning four of the final six points to steal the set from the Monarchs.
  • A tightly contested fifth set saw the Monarchs match the Pride at 9–9 after back–to–back kills by Holton. With Methodist trailing 13–12, Greensboro earned the final two points to win the match.
