HOW IT HAPPENED
- Savannah Hovander won the first point of the match with a kill, sparking a four–point run for the Monarchs. Back–to–back kills by Jamie Holton pushed Methodist further ahead (11–6), prompting a timeout by the visitors. Methodist maintained its lead, then really pulled away at the end of the set, claiming eight of the final nine points — including three kills by Holton, two by Hovander and a service ace by Hannah Hewett.
- Neither team took charge early in the second set. Then, with a 9–8 advantage, the Monarchs rattled off seven straight points to go up by eight. The run was a full team effort, with Holton, Hovander, Carlyn Tanis and Mahala Carter all contributing kills. From there, Methodist coasted to a second set victory.
- The third set proved to be the most competitive, as the Avenging Angels looked to take a step in the right direction. Meredith captured an 8–7 lead, but Methodist unleashed a five–point run to take a four–point advantage. The visitors took the next three points to fight back within one, but the Monarchs responded with four points of their own — which included two kills by Holton, an ace by Hewett, and a kill by Tanis.
- Ahead by five points late in the third set, the Monarchs saw their lead evaporate. Three straight kills by Meredith's Kinley Copeland once again pulled the Avenging Angels within one (18–17). Meredith would go on to tie the score four times following a Methodist timeout, but the Monarchs never allowed the visitors to take the lead. Tied at 24–24, freshman Railyn Fowler earned a kill, and an attack error by the Avenging Angels gave the Monarchs the final point they needed to complete the three–set sweep.
