Monarchs Compete at CNU Open to Wrap Up 2024

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.  The Methodist University men's and women's track & field teams traveled up to Christopher Newport University to compete in the CNU Holiday Open on Sunday.

TOP TRACK PERFORMANCES
  • Following an impressive rookie season, Tydrick Stewart began his sophomore campaign with a strong showing. In the men's 60 meter race, he clocked in a time of 7.02 seconds (personal record) in both the preliminary and semifinal rounds. That qualified him for the final 60m race, an event he finished in third place with a time of 7.12.
  • Fellow sophomore Logan Wade also participated in the 60m. He made it to the semifinals following a personal record of 7.07 in the prelims, but then narrowly missed running in the finals by 0.01 seconds, after he clocked a 7.08.
  • In the men's 600m, Joshua Antonie, a sophomore, placed second after he registered a new personal of 1:29.23.
  • Senior Jack Barriger had a nice showing as he placed inside the top 10 in all three of his events, including two top five placements. His two highest finishes came in the men's 3,000m (2nd) and 5,000m (4th), respectively, with times of 9:22.20 and 16:29.31. Also, his performance in the 3,000 was a new personal record.
  • On the women's side, sophomore Katena Morrison took part in the 60m Hurdles. After posting a 10.37 in the prelims to qualify for the final race, she shaved .06 seconds off her time (10.31) to secure seventh place.
  • Treazure Rosario Watson ran her first-ever women's 600m today and the junior claimed a second place finish with a time of 1:45.30.
TOP FIELD PERFORMANCES
  • Placing in the top five in the men's high jump was Carland Jones, a sophomore. His best jump was when the bar was set at 1.86m.
  • Morrison and Rosario Watson also competed in the women's triple jump. Coming in ninth and tenth respectively, Morrison's longest leap was 10.09m while Rosario Watson's was 10.03m, a new personal record.
  • Setting a new personal in the women's weight throw was senior Jordan Pecorella. Her best toss of 10.24m earned her an 11th place finish.
NEXT UP
Methodist is now off until 2025, when the two teams participate in the Mondo College Invitational on Saturday, January 18.
