Methodist Ryan McKay Gets First-Ever Head Coach Victory After Team Took Down Warren Wilson

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Methodist University men's lacrosse head coach Ryan McKay earned his first-ever coaching victory on Saturday, March 2, following a 26-1 win against Warren Wilson College.
 
The Monarchs tied a program record for most goals scored in a single-game, while setting a new school record for the largest margin of victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It only took Methodist seven seconds into the game before finding the back of the cage and take a 1-0 lead. The Monarch scoring continued throughout the first as they took an 8-0 advantage.
  • Methodist did not slowdown in second frame and added an additional 10 unanswered goals, to head into halftime up 18-0.
  • The Monarchs registered the first 20 goals of the contest before Warren Wilson tallied its first score midway through the third period. Methodist finished off the game by recording the final six goals.
FAST FACTS
  • The Monarchs were flawless in the faceoff circle with a perfect 31-for-31 mark, which is a new team record for most faceoff wins. Rotating at the X was Kaleb Simpson (13 of 13), Graham Clausen (12 of 12), and Zach Crisafulli (6 of 6).
  • Throughout the game the Owls turned the ball over 33 times, with Methodist causing 24 of those takeaways. The 24 CTs matches the single-game record, which was set by the 2023 Monarchs against Brevard College.
  • 15 different Methodist players recorded a goal today, including six multi-goal performances. Leading the way was J.R. Newman with four, a career-high.
  • Moving up in Monarch lore was senior Mark Chatt. With his seven points (three goals & four assists) in today's game, Chatt now sits fourth all-time in point scored (130) surpassing Methodist alum, and former teammate, Matt Pemberton (128).

Methodist is off for the next week before facing off with Averett University, at home, on March 9. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 PM.
