FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. For the second consecutive game, Methodist University men's lacrosse tallied 26 goals in its victory, 26-6, over Averett University on Saturday, March 9.
The Monarchs also tied a program record for points in a single game, 40, while registering a team record of 75 shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The contest started off with Averett coming out strong as the Cougars scored three of the first four goals, 3-1. Methodist then flipped the script and recorded the next five goals, by five different Monarchs, to close out the first quarter.
- A low scoring second period still saw Methodist outscore Averett 4-1 to increase the Monarchs advantage to 10-4 at halftime. Tallying two of the four Methodist goals was senior Jesse Leyble.
- The third stanza was dominated by the Monarchs as they added nine more goals to their total, while shutting out the Cougars. At one point in the third, Methodist scored five goals within a three and half minute span.
- After being held scoreless, Averett recorded the first goal of the fourth quarter to make it 19-5. In between this and the next Cougars goal, Jacob Burnette and Cy Horner added two more scores for the Monarchs. Methodist finished the game off by tacking on five additional goals.
FAST FACTS
- Of the 36 faceoffs that occurred in this game, the Monarchs won 31 of them. This matches a program for the most faceoffs victories in a single-game. Kaleb Simpson (14), Graham Clausen (11), and Zach Crisafulli (6) all contributed in this feat.
- Leading Methodist offense with four goals each were Horner, Leyble, and Ryan Kavounis. Horner & Leyble also had two assists for a total of six points.
- Monarch senior Mark Chatt had a game-high seven points, with two goals and five assists.
- Methodist had twice the number of groundballs compared to Averett (54 to 26).
