Methodist Pulls Away in Fourth Quarter

CARY, N.C.  Methodist University men's lacrosse traveled out to WakeMed Soccer Park to take on William Peace University, in USA South Athletic Conference action, on Thursday, March 28. In the fourth quarter, the Monarchs scored six unanswered goals to help propel them to an 11-5 victory against the Pacers.

THE ESSENTIALS
Final score: Methodist def. William Peace, 11-5
Records: Methodist 6-4 (3-0 USA South), William Peace 1-6 (0-2)
Location: WakeMed Soccer Park; Cary, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The opening period saw both teams record a goal. After William Peace registered the first goal of the contest, Mark Chatt tallied the first Methodist goal just 35 seconds later.
  • An early goal, in the second frame, by Nate Moore gave the Monarchs their first lead but it was not long before the Pacers tied the game up. A second goal by Chatt, midway through the second stanza, put Methodist in front again.
  • Early in quarter number three, Chatt found the back of the cage for a third time to give the Monarchs a two-goal advantage, 4-2. William Peace would outscore Methodist 2-1, with Ryan Kavounis scoring the other Monarch goal, during the remaining time before the final period.
  • The Pacers kept their momentum, from the previous quarter, going at the start of the fourth, as they knotted up the scoreboard (5-5). Luckily, Methodist gained control again and scored the next six goals to put the game out of reach.
