HOW IT HAPPENED
- A close battle between the two teams saw the first set reach an 11–11 gridlock. The Monarchs won eight of the next nine points, including two kills and two services aces by junior Jamie Holton. The momentum carried Methodist to a first–set victory, capped off with a service ace by freshman Jessie Gober.
- In similar fashion, neither team was able to pull away early in the second set, tying the score at 14–14. Then, as if a switch was flipped on for the Monarchs, they claimed 11 of 12 points to coast to another set win. Holton earned kills on four of the final six points, while sisters Jeanana Fowler and Railyn Fowler also contributed kills during the run.
- With a two–set lead, head coach Eddie Matthews saw an opportunity to utilize two more of his freshmen and offer them some in–game experience. Madison Carter took some reps as a setter for the Monarchs in the third set, while Madyson Loberger provided a fresh arm at the hitter position. Carter tallied six assists and three digs, while Loberger recorded a kill. Exactly as the Monarchs did in the first set, they turned an 11–11 score into a 19–12 lead, winning eight of nine points. This time, the Battling Bishops showed more resiliency, but Methodist remained poised and completed the three–set sweep.
