FREDERICK, Md. Methodist University men's soccer picked up its first win of the 2024 season, on Saturday, September 7. The road Monarchs overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Blazers of Hood College, 2-1, in a non-conference match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Offense was at a premium to begin the contest as neither team record a shot in the first 18 minutes. Then in 22nd minute, Hood's Jackson Shepard found the back of the net for the first goal of the game, on the team's second shot attempt.
- With five minutes left in the first half, 40th, sophomore Camden Hancox scored the equalizer for the Methodist. That goal by Hancox was also the first of his collegiate career.
- In the 67th minute, freshman Cameron Lambert made his first major impact for the Monarchs by scoring the team's second, his first, goal. Assisting on the play was junior Kaleb Thomas.
- After Methodist took the lead, the Monarchs defense held Hood to zero shot attempts for the remainder of the match.
NUMBERS
- This was the first-ever meeting between these two schools.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Trey Gohr improves to 1-1-1 after playing all 90 minutes, allowing one goal and made one save.
- Methodist was in the attacking third for a good portion of the match as the Monarchs took seven corner kicks, while the Blazers had zero corners.
- Methodist saw nine of its players take a shot throughout the contest, with senior Casey Atwell taking the most shots (3).

As Methodist makes its way back to Fayetteville, the Monarchs will make a stop in Virginia to take on Shenandoah University this Sunday, September 8. The opening kick is scheduled for 4 PM.
