Monarchs Play First Two Rounds at Tartan Invitational

LIGONIER, Pa.  After two rounds of play at The Tartan Invitational, the Methodist men's golf team holds 14th place on the leaderboard with a collective score of +38. The Monarchs shot 21 strokes over par in the first round before going 17 over in round two.

Location: Laurel Valley Country Club (Par 72 ­­– 7,022); Ligonier, Pennsylvania

OPENING ROUNDS
  • The Monarchs were sitting inside the top five halfway through Round 1, with Jonny Lewis leading the field at two strokes under par. As bogeys started to pile on for the team, an unfortunate quintuple bogey by Lewis on his 16th hole of the day dropped him down the individual leaderboard, and Methodist suddenly found itself near the bottom of the team standings. The Monarchs finished the first round tied for 13th out of 16 teams.
  • Haden Ruby leads the way for Methodist at +5 heading into the final round. He was Methodist's third–best golfer in the first round but found his rhythm over the next 18, finishing the round with a team–best –1 after sinking six birdies. He was the second–best golfer in the entire field during the second round and now holds 14th place on the individual leaderboard.
  • After leading the team in the first round at three strokes over par, Jack Haeflinger put together a respectable second round to finish the day in 30th at +8. He recorded four birdies during the second round.
  • With two bad holes that crushed his otherwise solid first round, Lewis entered the second round at +8. He fared better his second time around the course, logging birdies on his second hole and his penultimate hole, totaling a +5.
  • Tied with Lewis at +13 after two rounds, Beau Brewer posted Methodist's second–lowest round–one score with a +5. He was less fortunate in his second round, which saw one double bogey and one triple bogey.
  • Aiden McCall carded three birdies on the first round but finished his first 18 holes at +7. After a tough start to the second round, he finished at +10, totaling 17 strokes over par across both rounds.

The Monarchs will play the final round of The Tartan Invitational on Tuesday.
