Records: Methodist 4–4 (0–1 USA South), Piedmont 5-3 (2–0 USA South)
Location: Walker Athletic Complex; Demorest, Georgia
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ryan Kavounis delivered an opening strike just a minute and a half into the contest, giving the Monarchs a 1–0 lead. Piedmont answered with its own goal, then the teams traded a total of nine shots without a score, with Ethan Jahr and Piedmont's Mike Eisele each tallying two saves. Just inside the final two minutes of the first period, the Lions scored their second goal of the match. With under a minute, Logan Florio found Nate Moore for a score, but Piedmont made a rapid response, scoring with 18 seconds remaining in the quarter.
- The Methodist defense held Piedmont to just two goals in the second quarter, but the Monarchs were unable to add any to their total. Ethan Jahr made four saves in the period, while Methodist was only able to attempt three shots, placing two on target.
- Despite being shut out for a second straight quarter, the Monarchs still found themselves in a winnable situation entering the fourth period after only conceding one goal to the Lions in the third. However, Piedmont found its offensive groove, scoring four goals while continuing to stifle the Monarchs. With 5:27 left to play, Jay Legg netted Methodist's only goal of the second half, making the score 10–3.
