Monarchs Fall to UMass Boston

DARLINGTON, S.C.  In a true neutral site contest for both sides, the Methodist men's lacrosse team took on UMass Boston on Wednesday, suffering defeat by a score of 26–6. It's the most goals the Monarchs have allowed in a game this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Beacons scored three quick goals before Cy Horner gave Methodist its first goal of the afternoon halfway through the first period. The Monarchs held UMass Boston to just one more score in the quarter, taking a 4–1 deficit into the second period.
  • UMass Boston scored twice over the first eight minutes of the period, putting Methodist down 6–1. The Monarchs scored the next two, with Jacob Burnette finding the back of the net before assisting RJ Breeden on the second goal. Over the final four minutes of the half, the Beacons turned what was a three–goal margin into a seven–goal margin, making the score 10–3 at halftime.
  • The Monarchs were held scoreless in the entire third period, placing three shots on goal compared to 11 by the Beacons. In the final quarter, Nate Moore scored two unassisted goals, while LJ Oby added a goal as well. UMass Boston totaled seven goals in the third period and nine in the fourth.
FAST FACTS
  • With three caused turnovers on the day, Jake Bandler becomes the program's all–time leader in caused turnovers, currently with 98. He passes Daniel Richards, who tallied 96 caused turnovers from 2014–2017.
  • The Beacons showcased great ball movement, leading to assists on 16 of their 26 scores.
  • The Monarchs were severely outperformed at the faceoff position for the first time all season, winning just 12 of 35 faceoffs.
