ROME, Ga. Methodist saw two of its student-athletes recognized by the USA South Athletic Conference on Monday. Among the honorees listed in the League's weekly Athletes of the Week, senior
Kennedy Martin was named Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman
Helen Boeshore earned Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week.
Last week, Martin helped the women's lacrosse team post a 1-1 record, including a victory against a conference opponent. Against a good Mary Washington squad, a game the Monarchs lost, she led the team with five draw controls while registering two ground balls and two caused turnovers. In the win over Brevard, she recorded seven ground balls and four caused turnovers, both team highs, and had four draw controls. Also, Martin became the USA South career record holder for caused turnovers following her first-half performance against the Tornados.
During Methodist's spring break trip in Florida, Boeshore went 2-1 in singles and doubles action. Her singles victories came from the number six position, as she defeated Abigail Mach of Marywood University (6-1, 6-3) and Julianna VanderPloog of Franciscan University (6-0, 6-0). Both double wins were also against the same teams, with Boeshore and her doubles partner,
Veva Willocks, getting a 6-1 dub against the Pacers' McKenna Seavey/Alex Vitale, then edging out Catherine Grubb/Helen Leon of the Barons 6-4.
