HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- The starting pitchers for Methodist, Kyle Molivas, and Greensboro, Ian Bast, were dealing, as neither surrendered a hit through the first three innings.
- In the fourth inning, the Monarchs broke the scoreless game by plating two runs, including scoring a run before registering a hit. After Blake Freeman (walk) and Banks Hartman (hit-by-pitch) reached base, back-to-back wild pitches allowed Freeman to score while advancing Hartman to third. Then, Hartman scored on an RBI single from Austin Rinzel, who recorded the first hit of the game for Methodist.
- Just like the first run of the day, the Monarchs tallied their third run in the same manner during the fifth inning. Jackson Deal led the inning with a leadoff walk before making it to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Mauger. A couple of pitches later, Deal crossed home on a wild pitch and gave Methodist a 3–0 lead.
- Banks Engle added two more Monarch runs in the sixth inning after hitting a 2 RBI triple down the right field line, scoring Rinzel and Caleb Rogers, who each had a base hit prior to Engle's hit.
- It would take until the seventh inning before the Pride cracked the scoreboard, as they tallied one run to make it 5–1. After being held to just one hit through six, Greensboro recorded three hits off Molivas in the inning to drive in the run.
- Following a Methodist insurance run in the eighth inning, off another sac bunt by Mauger, the Pride made some noise in the ninth. Three of the first four batters in the inning reached base before Rush Bowman drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Then, Jaycob Caseres was called upon to pinch hit, and he delivered by smacking a three-run homerun over the center field fence. With the score 6–5 now, the closer for the Monarchs, Chase Carroll, induced the final necessary out to preserve the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- A slugfest ensued during the first two innings of game two, as four homers were registered by the teams, three by Greensboro and one by Methodist.
- After an opening frame exchange of two-run blasts, with Tristen Melvin recording the hit for the Monarchs, the Pride's Brody Gardner (3-Run) and Bowman (Grand Slam) each had a long ball to give Greensboro a 9–2 lead.
- Bowman and Gardner provided additional damage later in the game, as they both drove in another two runs, on a Bowman double in the fourth inning and a Gardner single in the ninth.
- The Pride also got RBIs from Myles Vacharasi and Mike Rinaldi in the sixth and eighth innings, respectively.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Methodist's Justin Blunt had an RBI single to plate the third Monarch run, while Rogers drove in the fourth run during the sixth inning.
- Before the ninth inning, Methodist cut Greensboro's lead in half, 14–7, following a 2-RBI double from Rinzel and an RBI ground out by Rogers.
STAT FACTS
- Molivas was lights-out for the Monarchs in game one. He got the win after scattering four hits across seven innings of work, giving up one run, and had a career-high seven strikeouts.
- Rinzel and Rogers were the only two Methodist batters to register multiple hits in both games. For the day, Rinzel went 4-for-7 with three RBIs, while Rogers went 4-for-6 with two RBIs.
