Road Monarchs Defeat Cavaliers

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. The Methodist University's men's tennis team continued its winning ways on Saturday morning, as the visiting Monarchs defeated the Cavaliers of Montreat College 5–2 in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With set scores of 6-2, each of Methodist's top two double pairs captured the doubles point. The No. 1s of Wills Belser and Harry Crokam took down Montreat's Daniel Diez and Bruno-Casimir Gehlhaar. At the same time, Daniel Garcia Estrabot and Youssef Idboufous fell at No. 2 doubles to the Monarch's Matthew Hurley and Decklan Rayner.
  • The Cavaliers began singles competition with a victory at No. 4, with Ibai Lopez defeating Drew Guarnieri defeated 6-2, 6-2, but then the Monarchs triumphed on courts five and one. Christian Tihanovich swiftly defeated Ben Smith 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 position, while Matthew Hurley secured a 6-2, 6-0 win over Daniel Diez on the first court.
  • After Methodist took a 3–1 match lead, the Monarchs had to forgo No. 2 singles due to an injury retirement.
  • The final two Methodist players to complete their matches were Ethan Carlyle (No. 6) and Harry Crokam (No. 3), both of whom won their respective flights. With scores of 6-1, 6-0 Carlyle beaten Kelson Rymer followed by Crokam edging out Youssef Idboufous 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5).
