THE ESSENTIALS
Final results: Methodist def. Pfeiffer, 7–4
Records: Methodist 23-11 (12-4 USA South), Pfeiffer 11-21 (7-9)
Location: Armstrong-Shelley Field; Fayetteville, North Carolina
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist quickly went ahead 5–0 in the first two innings, scoring four in the opening frame and another in the second. With two outs in the first inning, Caleb Rogers smacked a laser of a hit at Pfeiffer's shortstop, who was unable to prevent the ball from reaching the outfield. This allowed two runs to score and give the Monarchs the lead. Eventually, a passed ball and an RBI single by Israel Ortiz doubled Methodist's advantage.
- In the second, Jackson Deal led the inning off with a double before coming across to score on a Tristen Melvin RBI double.
- Pfeiffer got two of the runs back in the third inning, as a single and a pair of walks loaded the bases. Then, C.J. Acosta sent a pitch back up the middle to plate the first two Falcon runs.
- An RBI single by Blake Freeman in the fourth inning put the Monarchs up by four runs, 6–2. Brandon Mauger drew a walk before advancing to second base on a Melvin single. Freeman was up to bat next and he drove the ball up the middle to score Mauger.
- The score remained the same for several innings until the Falcons scored another two runs in the eighth. Three of the first four batters all reached to fill the bases, when a walk followed by a wild pitch scored both runs, cutting the deficit down to 6–4.
- In the bottom half of the eighth, Methodist recorded an insurance run to make the score 7–4. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for the Monarchs with no outs. After a foul out, Melvin was hit by a pitch which forced a run to score.
- Methodist turned to Chase Carroll in the ninth inning to close out the game, and after he gave up a leadoff single, he induced a line out and two flyouts to register his third save of the season.

- Continuing his sensational season, Melvin finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate, raising his batting average to .455. His two RBIs on the day increased his team-leading total to 41.
