FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. The Methodist University baseball team hosted Brevard College this past weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, for a USA South three-game series. The Monarch hitters showcased an offensive clinic, scoring at least 13 runs in each game and sweeping the Tornados at Armstrong-Shelley Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED – SATURDAY (Game One)
- Methodist opened the ballgame by scoring three runs in the first inning, as Tristen Melvin clobbered a three-run home run to straightaway center field.
- Brevard briefly reduced the run differential to two, 3–1, after scoring its lone run in the third inning.
- The Monarchs then recorded seven runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth, extending their lead to 13–1. The game concluded in the seventh inning due to the 12-run rule in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED – SATURDAY (Game Two)
- After trailing throughout Game One, the Tornados took an early lead against Methodist, claiming a 2–0 advantage in the first inning.
- A sacrifice fly by Banks Engle in the second inning cut the deficit in half, and then Brandon Mauger put the Monarchs in the lead for good at 3–2 with a two-run homer over the left-field fence.
- Another huge inning for Methodist made it a 9–2 game, as the Monarchs added six more runs in the fourth.
- Brevard got one run back in the sixth inning with a solo home run, but then the Monarchs tacked on an additional four runs in the seventh and eighth innings to widen the gap to ten runs, 13–3.
- In the ninth, the Tornados registered their final run on an RBI single.
HOW IT HAPPENED – SUNDAY
- The game was a back-and-forth battle through five innings, starting with each team scoring a run in the second inning, as Brevard took an early 1–0 lead before Caleb Rogers tied the game up for Methodist with an opposite-field home run.
- After Mauger gave the Monarchs a 2–1 advantage, the Tornados scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up 6–2. Methodist came right back in the bottom half of the inning, as the team scored five runs themselves to go back up by one, 7–6.
- Brevard re-took an 8–7 lead in the fifth inning following another pair of runs, but then the Monarchs pieced together a seven-run sixth inning to put them in front 14–8.
- Across the last three innings, Methodist outscored the Tornados 2-1, with Engle recording the final two RBIs for the Monarchs in the eighth.
NUMBERS
- Between all three games, Methodist outscored Brevard 42 to 14 while outhitting them 48 to 30.
- Melvin had a big series as he went 7-for-13 (.528) with two doubles, a triple, and a home run. He also registered nine RBIs, including a career-high five RBIs against the Tornados in Game One, while coming around to score seven runs.
- Rogers and Mauger also had good games against Brevard. Rogers slashed a .667 (8-for-12) with three RBIs, while Mauger was 4-for-9 (.444) with six RBIs and drew five walks as well.
- Kyle Molivas, Ian Swanson, and Jackson Kuhn were the three pitchers for the Monarchs who were credited with the win. Molivas (5 innings) and Swanson (6) started the first two games, while Kuhn (3.1) came in relief during the third game.
