Monarchs Compete at Braves Classic

PEMBROKE, N.C.  Participating in their fourth meet of the outdoor season, members of the Methodist track & field teams produced strong showings on Saturday at the Braves Classic hosted by UNC Pembroke.

TOP MEN'S PERFORMERS
  • Tydrick Stewart finished second in the 100–meter final, recording a PR time of 10.56 seconds. It's the 17th best mark in all of Division III so far this season.
  • In the 200–meter dash, Elvin Chandler was the top Monarch, clocking a PR time of 22.99 seconds.
  • Danzell Simpkin finished sixth out of 20 competitors in the discus throw, tossing a distance of 39.99 meters. In the javelin throw, Joseph Butler captured third out of 11 individuals with a throw of 46.46 meters.
  • Ke Edwards was the top Methodist jumper in the long jump, leaping a distance of 6.66 meters in his track and field debut. He out–jumped David Dennis and Jeremiah Freeman, who both finished in the top three at the USA South Indoor Championship in February.  
  • In the triple jump, Freeman was the top Monarch with a jump of 13.42 meters.
  • Claiming seventh place out of 24 in the shot put, Tristan Bowser recorded a PR throw of 12.86 meters.
TOP WOMEN'S PERFORMERS
  • Claiming first place in the triple jump, Treazure Rosario Watson recorded a PR leap of 11.45 meters.
  • Erykalyn Neal and Quierra Hawkins took fourth and sixth in the 100–meter prelims, recording times of 13.14 and 13.35 respectively. In the final, D'Zariya Paran was the top Methodist finisher with a time of 13.61.
  • In the shot put, Rebecca McGaughnea took 12th place out of 18 competitors with a season–best throw of 9.79 meters.

Methodist will compete at the two–day Dennis Craddock Coaches Classic in Lynchburg, Virginia on April 11 and 12.
