GREENWOOD, Ind. The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced its Academic All-District Softball Teams on Tuesday. Five student–athletes represented Methodist as they earned a spot on the NCAA Division III list. Those Monarchs included
Grace Hobbs,
Rachel Blanchard,
Rachel Lawson,
Alexandra Edwards and
Alyssa Rivas.
Hobbs, a senior from Virginia Beach, Virginia, started 38 of Methodist's 40 games, tying for the most starts on the team. The first baseman was responsible for 207 putouts and was involved in 14 double plays. She made just three errors on the season, producing a fielding percentage of .986 that was best on the team among players with more than 20 chances. Offensively, she led the team in walks (15) and reached base a team–best six times from being hit by a pitch. She totaled 18 hits, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored on the season.
Blanchard, a junior from Kenansville, North Carolina, started out the season hot with at least one hit in 14 of her first 15 games. In 38 games played, the outfielder amassed 41 hits (tied for second most on the team), including a team–leading 14 doubles (which also ranked top three in the USA South). She was the only Monarch to record both a triple and a home run during the season, legging out three triples and launching four homers. Her slugging percentage of .624 and her 27 runs scored were also top marks on the team, along with her eight stolen bases on eight attempts.
Lawson, a sophomore from Graham, North Carolina, played in 35 games during her second season as a Monarch. The usual third baseman and occasional catcher recorded 21 hits on the year (including three doubles), and she came around to score on 10 occasions. Defensively, she totaled 56 putouts on the season.
Edwards, a senior from Spring Hope, North Carolina, produced 18 hits and scored 13 times during the 30 games she played in. The outfielder made just two errors while in center field, finishing the season with a fielding percentage of .952.
Rivas, a junior from Lawrenceville, Virginia, led the team with a .391 batting average. Her totals of 43 hits and 32 RBIs were also team highs, while her 10 walks were tied for second most on the squad. While behind the plate, she threw of 14 runners who were attempting to steal base. She started in 36 games on the season, primarily serving as the catcher while occasionally acting as the designated player.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Softball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
