FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. In the first game of the 2025 USA South baseball championship series, the top–seeded Monarchs prevailed over Greensboro College, topping the Pride 6–3 on Thursday evening. Methodist had plenty of answers for the visitors, scoring two runs each time the Pride scored one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride were first to score with a run in the top of the first, capitalizing on a wild pitch by Methodist ace Kyle Molivas. In the bottom of the inning, a two–run shot to right field by Tristen Melvin gave the Monarchs a 2–1 advantage.
- Mike Rinaldi tied things up with a homer of his own in the top of the second, blasting a ball over the center–field wall.
- Methodist loaded the bases in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs on back–to–back sacrifice flies by Jackson Deal and Brandon Mauger.
- After a pair of scoreless innings, a sacrifice fly by Rinaldi brought home another run for Greensboro, pulling the Pride within one run of Methodist. In the bottom of the inning, Melvin launched his second two–run shot of the afternoon, taking another ball deep to right field to make the score 6–3, which would hold for the remainder of the contest.
NUMBERS
- After 4.2 innings of work from Molivas, Jackson Kuhn entered the game and tossed 3.1 scoreless frames, giving up just three hits on his way to collecting the win. Chase Carroll closed out the game by throwing the ninth, earning a save for preserving the three–run lead.
- With his pair of homers, Melvin led the team with four RBIs on the day and finished with three of the team's five hits.
UP NEXT
Methodist and Greensboro will meet again on Friday in the second game of the championship series beginning at 2 p.m. Despite playing on their home field, the Monarchs will operate as the visiting team while the Pride serve as the home team.
A victory for Methodist would make the Monarchs USA South Tournament champions, while a victory for Greensboro would force a third (and final) game in the series, which would start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 2 p.m. game on Friday.
