THE ESSENTIALS
Final scores: Methodist def. Greensboro, 10–5
Records: Methodist 32-13; Greensboro 28-16-1
Location: Armstrong-Shelley Field; Fayetteville, North Carolina

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • As the designated visiting team in Game Two of the championship series, Methodist scored the first run in the top of the second inning. Banks Engle reached base with a hit by pitch before advancing to second on a deep fly out. Engle then crossed home plate on an RBI single by Ethan Golemo.
  • The Pride tied the ballgame 1–1 in the third inning with Louis Berini's RBI base hit. Chris Le drew a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then scored on Berini's hit.
  • The Monarchs briefly reclaimed a 2–1 edge in the fifth inning due to an error from Greensboro, but then, the Pride took their first lead of the series, going up 4–2 in the sixth. Following a single and a double by Dominic Scavone and Mike Rinaldi, respectively, Rush Bowman drove them both in on a rope to left field. A few batters later, Le stepped into the box, and with bases loaded, he was hit by the pitch to bring in the fourth Greensboro run.
  • In the seventh, Methodist drew four consecutive walks to score one run, then scored another on a wild pitch to tie the game 4–4. Shortly after, Melvin had a base hit through the left side of the infield to drive in two more runs, putting the Monarchs back in front.
  • Additional runs in the eighth and ninth innings extended Methodist's lead to 10–4. Mauger recorded an infield single in the eighth to bring in one run, while the other three runs occurred in the ninth, as Golemo and Jackson Deal each registered an RBI, with the third run resulting from another Pride error.
  • Aided by a Monarch miscue, Greensboro scored the last run of the contest before Methodist's closer, Chase Carroll, induced a game-ending double-play to seal the title victory.
NUMBERS
  • Golemo was the only Monarch to record multiple hits as he went 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored. Golemo also registered a team-high two RBI, along with Mauger and Melvin.
  • Coming in relief and getting credit for the win was Brandon Humphreys. The senior pitched an inning and two-thirds of shutout baseball, surrendering two hits, a walk, and striking out one.
  • Methodist also tied or broke several USA South individual and team tournament records this season. They include: Runs scored by a single player (Deal and Evans with 11, new); RBIs by a single player (Mauger and Melvin with 14, tied); Runs scored by a team (71, new); RBIs by a team (59, new).
