JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Methodist defeats Montreat, 2-0
Records: Methodist 2-1-0, Montreat 0-4-0
Location: Duggins Soccer Stadium; Fayetteville, N.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A foul drawn by Josh Mott inside the box gave Methodist its first scoring opportunity 12 minutes into the contest. Charging forward for the penalty kick, Mott struck the ball with his right foot and kept it low towards his left side, sending it past the diving Montreat goalkeeper for his first goal of the season.
  • With heightened energy, the Monarchs immediately took advantage of a flustered Montreat squad that had just given up a goal. With Mott and Gerard Bradley applying pressure to the Cavaliers' defense, Steven Floyd was able to come away with a steal. Keeping the ball on the ground, Floyd fed a short pass into the box for Cameron Lambert, who chipped the ball past the oncoming keeper and into the left corner of the net. Lambert's goal came inside the 13th minute of the match.
  • Methodist goalkeeper Trey Gohr made two saves in each half, completing his second shutout win of the season.
