Records: Methodist 8–12 (7–6 USA South), Brevard 16–4 (11–2 USA South)
Location: March F. Riddle Center; Fayetteville, N.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Brevard made an early statement, scoring 18 of the game's first 20 points, posing a tricky challenge for the Monarchs.
Giavonna Dunlap,
Jada Richardson and
Korin Gladden each scored before the end of the first period, but Methodist still trailed by 15 heading into the second quarter.
The Monarchs made up ground in the second, mainly working through Richardson to cut their deficit to seven points (28–21 with four and half minutes to go before the break). Dunlap, Gladden and
Kayleen Grullon all contributed a bucket during the scoring run. However, Brevard closed the quarter strong and went to the locker room up 42–28.
Despite shooting 50% in the third quarter, the Monarchs were outscored 25–12 in the period, and the fourth quarter would provide no chance for a comeback. Brevard's Analee Morris showed off her three-point jump shot throughout the second half, finishing the game 7-for-10 from deep and totaling a game-high 28 points on the afternoon to help lead her team to victory.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Richardson's 23 points and eight rebounds were both team highs in the loss, while Gladden scored nine points and Grullon contributed eight in the effort. Methodist shot nearly 47% from the field, but the solid shooting wasn't enough to overcome the 33 turnovers committed.
