Monarchs Close Spring Break Trip with a Win Over Roanoke

SALEM, Va.  The Methodist men's tennis team wrapped up its spring break trip with a 6–1 non-conference victory over Roanoke College on Wednesday afternoon at the EC Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist opened the afternoon by winning two of the three doubles matches to take an early 1–0 lead. At the top position, Harry Crokam and Aaron Zoubek earned a 7–5 victory over Federico Maccari and Nolan Macedo. The Monarchs then secured the doubles point at No. 2, where Matthew Hurley and Decklan Rayner delivered a dominant 6–0 win against Emiliano Ramirez and Julio Marques.
  • Roanoke claimed the final doubles contest at No. 3, where Luis Henriquez and JH Herrington defeated Andrew Waddill and Cameron Roth by a score of 6–4.
  • In singles play, Methodist controlled the match by winning five of the six courts. At the top flight, Hurley picked up a straight-set victory over Maccari, winning 6–2, 6–4. Crokam followed with a strong performance at No. 2 singles, defeating Ramirez 6–1, 7–6.
  • Roanoke earned its lone point of the day at No. 3 singles, where Macedo edged Zoubek in a tightly contested three-set match (6­–4, 6–7 (5–7), 11–13).
  • The Monarchs responded by taking the remaining courts. Rayner battled to a three-set (6–3, 2–6, 6–0) win at the No. 4 position, while Billy Johnson earned a 6–4, 6–1 victory over Marques at No. 5 singles. Waddill rounded out the scoring for Methodist with a 6–1, 6–2 win against Ian Michel at the No. 6 spot.

After playing seven matches across the last six days, Methodist gets a well-deserved rest before returning to action at home on Sunday, March 22, hosting Virginia Wesleyan University. First serve is set for 1 PM.
