GREENSBORO, N.C. The Methodist women's lacrosse team opened USA South Conference play in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, defeating Greensboro College, 17–6, at Pride Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Methodist set the tone immediately in the opening quarter, controlling play on both ends of the field. The Monarch offense scored five goals while the defense held Greensboro without a shot during the first 15 minutes. Layla Wiesenfeld led the early surge with two goals, while Brooke Murrell, Rylie Sturgill, and Alana Rabon each added a score to give Methodist a commanding 5–0 advantage after one.
- The Monarchs continued to build momentum in the second quarter. Wiesenfeld, Sturgill, and Anna Tabarrini each netted two goals during the period as Methodist extended its lead to 11–0. Greensboro managed to find some offense late in the half, scoring three goals in the final four minutes to trim the deficit to 11–3 at the break.
- Greensboro opened the third quarter with a goal, but Methodist quickly answered. The Monarchs scored four consecutive times to push their advantage to 15–4, with Murrell, Jenifer Ferreira, Rabon, and Cheyenne Burton all finding the back of the net. The Pride added one more goal late in the quarter before the teams moved to the final period.
- Methodist closed out the contest by outscoring Greensboro 2–1 in the fourth quarter. Julia Mundy recorded the first goal of her collegiate career, and Tabarrini added her third goal of the afternoon to help secure the road victory.
FAST FACTS
- Wiesenfeld paced the Monarch offense with four goals, while Sturgill and Tabarrini each recorded hat tricks with three goals apiece.
- Methodist collected 24 ground balls in the game — its second-highest total of the season — with Murrell leading all players with seven.
- All three Methodist goalkeepers saw time in net. Sophomore Hailey Smith made her collegiate debut in the second half and recorded her first career save, while Victorianna Murray and Amelia Fuentes each played 15 minutes in goal.
