Methodist Cruises Past Goucher

BALTIMORE, Md.  The Methodist women's tennis team continued its strong spring break run on Monday afternoon, sweeping Goucher College 7–0 in non-conference play at the Evelyn Dyke Schroedl '62 Tennis Center.

Following the match, head coach Scott Handback had this to say about the team's performance.

"Today was another great day on our spring break trip," said Handback. "The women continued their winning ways, and I couldn't be more proud of this team."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist secured the doubles point by winning two of the three courts. The duo of Addison Haden and Katie Sechrist delivered a dominant 6–1 win at No. 3 position, while Shea Bieniek and Emma Hulicki earned a 6–3 victory at the No. 1 doubles.
  • Goucher claimed its lone doubles victory at the No. 2 spot, where Caitlin Tihanovich and Helen Hofmann were defeated 6–2.
  • The Monarchs then took control of the match in singles play. Sechrist was the first to finish, turning in a dominant 6–0, 6–1 performance over Lydia Hurst at the No. 5 position. Haden followed shortly after with a 6–2, 6–1 victory against Nini Kandelaki on court six.
  • Bieniek added another point for Methodist at the No. 4 spot. She won the opening set 6–3 before dropping the second set by the same score. In the decisive third set, Bieniek took care of business and won 6–0. Hofmann was next to finish, defeating Meline Siggen 6–2, 6–3 at No. 2 singles.
  • At the top flight, Hulicki secured a 6–3, 6–1 victory over Natalia Navarro. Tihanovich rounded out the Monarch sweep at No. 3 singles in a three-set thriller. She claimed the opening set 6–2 but then dropped the second set 6–3. In the super tiebreaker set, Tihanovich edged out her opponent 10–8.
UP NEXT
Methodist continues its spring break schedule with a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 10, in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Monarchs will first face Alvernia University at 11 AM before taking on Albright College at 3 PM
