Three Goal Scorers Drives Men’s Soccer Over Barton

WILSON, N.C. -  The Methodist men's soccer team opened regular season action against NCAA DII Barton College on Tuesday evening. After taking a 2-0 halftime lead, the Monarchs seized control off a late penalty kick goal by junior Cameron Lambert in the 65th minute, sealed the deal for the Monarchs to grab a 3-1 victory over the Bulldogs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Methodist outlasted Barton on the pitch from striking 26 shots to Barton's five in total.
  • Senior Trey Gohr, fended off three shots with zero saves on the night to secure his first victory of the season in goal for the Monarchs.
  • In the 22nd minute, senior Carson Stretz cashed in off the free kick by junior Cameron Lambert. Lambert placed the ball firmly in front of the net to collect his first assist of the season to allow Stretz to cash in goal number one in 2026.
  • Sophomore Gerard Bradley added to the tally with a goal of his own, scoring off a fast break from the left, nailing his first goal of the year into the net during the 58th minute of action.
  • Methodist extended their lead off foul trouble from the Bulldogs, establishing an opportunity for junior Cameron Lambert to strike off a penalty kick from 20 yards out in the 65th minute.
  • The Bulldogs were able to convert in the 69th minute to avoid the shutout from Santiago Olivo's late penalty kick goal.
  • Three more shots were tallied for Methodist's firepower offense, allowing for the Monarchs to fend off the Bulldogs in the closing 15 minutes of play.
