FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist University cheerleading team reached out to the community with two special events in November.

The Methodist University Cheerleaders hosted the Regional Special Olympic Cheerleading Competition. This is the third year the Monarch Cheerleaders hosted the event at the Riddle Arena.  The competitors who placed at this event advanced to compete at the State Championship.  Teams from the Eastern Region competed in 3 separate divisions: beginner, intermediate and advanced.  The Monarch Cheerleaders host the event and are "buddies" for each team.  There was a special guest appearance made by King who assisted in awarding the winning teams.

The 3rd annual Spirit Night was held Saturday Nov. 22 in the Riddle Center gymnasium hosted by the Methodist University Cheerleaders along with the Cumberland County Parks and Recreation Department.  Each recreational cheerleading team in the county are invited to perform a short routine that showcases their skills.  Unlike a competition, spirit night focuses on recognizing each team and coach while encouraging spirit and sportsmanship among the teams.  There were two divisions represented: Pee Wee and Midget cheerleading teams.  The Methodist University Cheerleaders worked with each cheerleading team and assisted in presenting Medallions to each cheerleader and coach.
