MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Methodist football team came from behind Saturday to force overtime with Maryville, but after four overtime periods, the Monarchs came up short 36-30.
Maryville came out and scored on their first possession of the game with a 42-yard pass. The Monarchs picked up a first down on their next possession but turned the ball over on downs at the Maryville 14-yard line. Maryville took over and drove 86 yards back to the endzone to take the 14-0 lead. The Scots used a 37-yard field goal early in the second quarter to go ahead 17-0, but the Monarchs punched one with 1:42 to go in the half with a 27-yard pass from freshman quarterback

Tyler Mosko kicked the extra point and the half ended with Maryville leading 17-7.
The third quarter passed without either team able to score. On Maryville's second possesion of the quarter, Andrew Noboa had a 23-yard field goal attempt blocked by Methodist sophomore

Roderick Sawyer for 14 yards. The Monarchs could not advance into Maryville territory and the quarter ended scoreless. The Monarchs held the Scots to just one first down in the entire fourth quarter, while they battled back. The Monarchs took over with 3:54 to go in the game still down 17-7 when quarterback
Erik Teague went 3-for-3 passing during the drive to help drive the Monarchs to the Maryville 10-yard line. Methodist called a timeout with 2:18 to go and Teague finished with a 10-yard run to score. Mosko's kick moved the Monarchs within three and the People's on-side kick allowed the Monarchs to recover the ball on their own 42-yard line with 2:07 to play. Sophomore
Reggie Scales moved the ball into the Maryville 1-yard line, but after an incomplete pass, the Monarchs opted to have Mosko kick the 18-yard field goal. Mosko's kick was good with two seconds remaining to tie the game at 17.
The Monarchs started with the ball in the first overtime and finished with a nine-yard pass from Muphy to Peoples for the 24-17 lead. Maryville came back with three plays to tie the game again at 24. The Methodist defense held the Scots to a 36-yard field goal in the second overtime, but the Monarchs came back with another 18-yard field goal from Mosko to tie the game again at 27.
In the third overtime, Mosko kicked a 34-yard field goal to take the 30-27 lead, but Noboa responded with a 25-yard field goal. Maryville opened up the fourth overtime with a 12-yard rushing touchdown to lead 36-30. Murphy found Peoples for a 12-yard pass to the Maryville 12-yard line, but four plays later, Murphy was picked off to give Maryville the 36-30 win.
Murphy finished up 9-for-20 for 101 yards passing while Teague went 12-for-20 with 110 yards passing. Scales ran for 54 yards.
Tim Conor threw for 202 yards for Maryville on 10-for-20 passing. Rommel Hightower led the running game with 97 yards.
Methodist sophomore
Jody Balaam paced the defense with nine tackles and Kyle Chewning led Maryville with 11.
The Monarchs will be back on the road next Saturday to take on Ferrum at 2 pm.
