Volleyball Ends Successful Season

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Top seeded Christopher Newport ended the 2009 Methodist volleyball season with a 0-3 (13-25, 12-25, 11-25) win in the USA South Tournament semifinals Friday night.

Methodist finished their season with 19 wins, the most since 1992. Six seniors concluded their career with the best winning percentage in more than 15 years. 

The Monarchs took an early lead at 7-4 before the Captains went on an 0-7 run to gain control and cruise to the 13-25 lead. Christopher Newport picked up where they left off in the second set to take the 12-25 win. They finished the match with an 11-25 win in the third set.

Methodist sophomore Jalesty Washington led the team with seven kills while freshman Stephanie Wood added six. Sophomore Kayci Miller had 19 assists while sophomore Kelsey Yates paced the team with eight digs. 

Christopher Newport advanced to the championship match against N.C. Wesleyan.
