FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's tennis team opened the 2009 spring season against NCAA Division II neighbor Barton College with an 8-1 loss Saturday.

Barton took the 2-1 lead after the doubles competition with Methodist's Dylan Knox and Rob Schmidt winning 8-5 at number two.  Matthew Taylor and Justin Campbell lost 8-4 at number one and Brad Tulenko and Sean Teeter lost 8-6 at number three.

The Bulldogs ran the table in singles winning six straight. Taylor lost 6-0, 6-3 at number one and Campbell fell 6-0, 6-0 at number two.  Schmidt lost 6-0, 6-3 at number three and while Knox pushed the first set to a tiebreaker, he lost 7-6 (10-8), 6-2.  Tulenko lost 6-0, 6-0 at number five and Teeter lost 6-1, 6-3 at number six.

The Monarchs will host Pfeiffer on Wednesday at 3 pm.
