FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist Monarchs dropped an 8-1 match to Averett University on Saturday.
While doubles are traditionally played first, due to transportation issues, the Monarchs and Cougars squared off in singles first with Averett sweeping Methodist.
Matthew Taylor lost 6-1 in the first set at number one but came back and played a tight 7-5 to lose the second set.
Rob Schmidt lost 6-0, 6-1 at number two and
Dylan Knox lost 6-4, 6-2 at number three.
Justin Campbell lost 6-4, 6-2 at number four and #BradTulenko# lost 6-2, 6-2 at number five.
Sean Teeter lost 7-5, 6-1 at number six.
Methodist's
Rob Currier and
Steven Burkett won 9-8 (8-6) at number three doubles to get the Monarchs a win. Taylor and Campbell lost 8-1 at number one and Schmidt and Knox fell 8-4 at number two.
The Monarchs will travel to Ferrum next Saturday for a 1 pm match.
