HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Methodist men's tennis team took on Augustana and Adrian in day three of their spring break. The Monarchs won a tight 5-4 match up with Augustana before sweeping Adrian 9-0.
In the first match of the day, the Monarchs went down 2-1 after doubles with
Rob Schmidt and
Dylan Knox winning the only match 8-4 at number two doubles.
Matthew Taylor and
Justin Campbell lost 8-2 and
Brad Tulenko and
Sean Teeter lost 8-5 at number three.
Taylor won the number one singles match 6-3, 6-2 and Schmidt won 6-3, 6-2 at number two. Campbell lost in three sets at number three 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 and Knox was defeated 6-4, 2-6, 10-8. Tulenko won 6-2, 6-2 at number five. With the match tied at four a piece, Teeter clinched the Methodist win with a 7-6, 6-4 victory at number six.
Methodist followed up with a 9-0 win over Adrian. Knox and
Rob Currier won 8-2 at number one while Schmidt and
Steven Burkett won 8-1at number two.
Neil Perron and
Justin Johnson won 8-1 at number three.
Taylor took the 6-2, 6-3 win at number one singles and Schmidt won 6-0, 6-2 at number two. Teeter won 6-2, 6-2 at number three and Perron won 6-4, 6-0 at number four. Burkett won 6-0, 6-2 at number five and
Greg Archi won 6-1, 6-2 at number six.
The Monarchs will play Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday at 12 pm.
