KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Methodist University picked up a win on Tuesday with a 7-1 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) before falling 8-2 to Eastern Mennonite.
RIT took the early 1-0 lead in the third inning, but the Monarchs came back and took the lead with four runs in the fourth inning.
Sara Poling led off with a hit while
Alex Bass,
Darci Martin,
Brittany Melton and
Courtney Blann picked up RBI. Methodist capitalized on defensive errors in the fifth with three additional runs after a leadoff single from
Jody Eyler. Melton capped off the inning with a RBI-single. Bass pitched the complete game for the Monarchs scattering five hits.
Methodist senior
Kayla Talbert had a solo home run in the fourth inning and Melton had a single in the fifth to score on Eyler's two-out single up the middle, but the Royals racked up eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take the 8-2 win.
Lesley Hewitt, Bass and
Jessica Pridgen all spent time in the circle with Hewitt taking the loss.
The Monarchs continue at the Rebel Games on Wednesday with games against Muhlenberg and Mary Washington.
