Box Score FERRUM, Va. - The Methodist lacrosse team trailed 4-3 at halftime at Ferrum, but came back to win 8-7 for their second USA South win.
Methodist (4-6, 2-1) scored the first two goals of the game to go up 2-0, but the Panthers (2-6, 0-3) came back and tied it at two with 17:28 to go in the first half.
Andrea DiStefano scored to put the Monarchs up 3-2, but Ferrum scored two goals in the final seven minutes of the half to lead 4-3 at the break.
Ferrum went up 6-3 before the Monarchs went on a five goal run to lead 8-6 with 15:35 to go in the game. Methodist had three more shots compared to the Panthers' two before Ferrum scored with 2:49 to go cutting the Monarchs' lead to one. Ferrum called a timeout and won the draw but after their shot went wide, Methodist goalkeeper
Lindsey Cosgray picked up the ground ball and the Monarchs cleared and ran the clock out to win 8-7.
DiStefano finished with five goals while
Krystal Poirier scored two and
Jasmine Stephens added one.
Cosgray made seven saves for the Monarchs while Ferrum goalkeeper Velena Taylor had 10 stops.
The Monarchs will host Christopher Newport on Saturday at 2 pm in their final regular season home game.
