Methodist Falls to Birmingham-Southern

Monarchs look to bounce back on Saturday

Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham-Southern jumped out to the early lead and won their first game 11-6 over the Methodist women's lacrosse team.

The Panthers scored five quick goals in the first ten minutes to take a commanding lead, but Methodist got on the board with a goal from senior Andrea DiStefano with 19:20 to go in the first half. Freshman Abby Harmon scored her first college goal five minutes later on the assist from freshman Jasmine Stephens. DiStefano cut Birmingham-Southern's lead to two with another goal. The Panthers stopped the run with an unassisted goal just a minute later to take the 6-3 lead at halftime.

Birmingham-Southern opened the scoring in the second half, but Stephens came right back with a goal ten minutes into the half. The Panthers added three goals before junior Krystal Poirier scored to move the Monarchs within 10-5. Birmingham-Southern would score once more before DiStefano scored her third goal of the game in the final minute of play.

Junior Lindsey Cosgray made 12 saves in goal for Methodist while Katie Bates had four saves for the Panthers.

The Monarchs will be back at Birmingham-Southern tomorrow to take on Sewanee at 12 pm.
